Great Expectations...

"“As I live, declares the Lord God, surely with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and with wrath poured out I will be king over you. I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered, with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out." - Ezekiel 20:33–34
It's thirty-two days before Christmas and counting. For the little ones (and big ones as well) this countdown is an exciting adventure. Every day takes them closer to special gifts and celebrations. For retailers each day is a new opportunity to make it rich. School students also have their eyes on the prize of a break from classes. Life seems so much better with great expectations.
There was overwhelming hardship for the people of Israel at the time of Ezekiel. Their days were darker than ever, with the Lord against them, the nations against them and their past catching up to them. Their families were being broken up and scattered around the world. Yet, in the midst of prophetic bad news there was a glimmer of hope... The Lord would restore them some day. Life became easier with great expectations.
The real reason for joy and hope in this season doesn't rest on presents, profit or a break from school. It centers on God's fulfilled promise of a Savior and the return of the Lord one day soon. No matter how dark your days may be, the presence and the promise of Jesus will bring you lasting light. Life is always better with great expectations of HIM!
