"Now the prophets, Haggai and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel who was over them. Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Jeshua the son of Jozadak arose and began to rebuild the house of God that is in Jerusalem, and the prophets of God were with them, supporting them." - Ezra 5:1-2
Occasionally my wife or I come down with some illness that requires a visit to the Doctor. He sits with us and takes our vitals, asks a few questions and finally explains the situation. Prescriptions are given as well as certain instructions for our improvement. We're usually told to rest and drink lots of fluids, along with other inconvenient directions. No matter how much we dislike the encounter, the Doctor visit always pays off ... we get better.
The prophets of the Old Testament, as well as apostles and preachers of the New testament were not always a welcomed sight. The Biblical instructions and inconvenient counsel that they brought would often seem unpleasant. Many of these men of God would be persecuted and turned away viciously. But, those who received their message with submissive hearts would soon discover that the visit paid off and their spiritual condition got better.
When you begin to feel spiritually ill, why is it that you slip away from your Bible reading, going to church and visiting with Christian friends? Could it be that you know they will direct you toward the Lord and significant change in your behavior? Why wait until you are so sick that you're weak as a kitten? Your Pastor and church family desperately and lovingly desire the very best for you. You will find that making a visit with a submissive heart really pays off... and your spiritual condition will get better.
